Shakeology – Is it really all that and a bag of chips?

Thanks for checking out my Shakeology website; if you are looking for more information on Shakeology then you have come to the right place. I have done a ton of research on this topic and have compiled it all into a nice blog post for you.

I first heard about ‘Shakeology’ from a Beachbody coach and he got these amazing results with P90X and Shakeology.  I was right in the middle of my first round of P9oX and was struggling with keeping my nutrition on track so I was looking for some extra help.  So if you are like me and you want to know more about something then you just Google-it right?  Like I said, there’s a lot of junk on the net so on this post I’m just going to give you the facts, most of which I found on the Beachbody Shakeology website.

    What is Shakeology?

According to Beachbody, “Shakeology is a meal replacement shake that provides a variety of healthy nutrients in a low-calorie shake.”  So basically its a health shake (some refer to it as the ‘Shakeology Diet’) that supposedly contains all these vitamins and minerals that you wouldn’t normally get enough of with just eating alone.  Me personally, I don’t always eat the healthiest and I’m definitely not getting all my fruits and veggies in every single day so knocking down a shake that’s already got all of that in there sounds pretty good so far.

What’s in Shakeology that makes it so great?

Beachbody boasts that Shakeology contains over 70 high-quality ingredients (also known as super foods) that are all-natural and come from whole-food sources.  Ok, so what does that mean?  I mean we’ve heard these buzz words floating around for awhile now but maybe you don’t necessarily know what they mean. According to Wikipedia, ‘natural foods’ means:

“The term is assumed to imply foods that are minimally processed and do not contain manufactured ingredients”

Ok, so that means the ingredients in Shakeology have little to no processing involved and are not synthetic, which means man-made. Everything on the label can be Googled and you can actually see a picture of it, where it came from and what it looks like.  Ok, so what about ‘whole-food’ sources; again, Wikipedia states:

“Whole foods are foods that are unprocessed and unrefined, or processed and refined as little as possible, before being consumed. Whole foods typically do not contain added ingredients, such as salt, carbohydrates, or fat.”

So why is it important that Shakeology be so unprocessed and unrefined?  Well when food is taken from the ground and put through the refining process, vital, natural nutrients and minerals found in that element are removed, damaged or lessened.  So that means that the ingredients in Shakeology are as close to the natural state of that super food as possible and are as potent as they were when taken from the ground – wow!! Talk about super healthy!  In fact, Shakeology has even been endorsed by Oprah!

    Shakeology Ingredients

Every serving of Shakeology contains the following:

    • Protein - gotta have protein, its good for building muscle, losing weight, it supports brain function and keeps your skin and bones healthy

    • Antioxidants - these bad boys help boost the immune system and reduce free radical
damage that can lead to life threatening problems like heart disease, heart attacks, high blood pressure and stroke.
    • Phytonutrients - (also known as phytochemicals) are plant compounds found in fresh fruits and vegetables. They have been shown to have tremendous beneficial effects on the body. Among other things, phtyonutrients have been shown by research to have antioxidant, anti-aging and anti-cancer properties
    • Prebiotics - prevalent forms of prebiotics are nutritionally classed as soluble fiber and support digestive and immune health.
    • Digestive enzymes - help in the digestion of foods and promote regularity

What can Shakeology do for you?

When people ask me about Shakeology and what it does, the best information I can give them is just tell them what it does for me.  Shakeology solved my problem with trying to eat all my fruits and veggies each day, it solves my problem with trying to eat a healthy breakfast and it helps satisfy my sweet tooth. In the end, I have lost 20 pounds and have kept it off for more than a year. Personally, from my own Shakeology results, I know it has helped me lose weight (and keep it off), lower my cholesterol, reduce my cravings, increase my energy and stamina and satisfies my sweet tooth so I don’t pig out on Oreos after dinner!

From the research I have done on Shakeology, here is some information I found about a study that was done where each participant replaced one meal a day with the Shakeology, exercised regularly, ate a balanced diet and here are the results:

The study showed that participants were able to:

    • Reduce total cholesterol by 30% on average
    • Reduce LDL (“bad”) cholesterol by 38% on average
    • Reduce cardiovascular risk ratio by 24% on average
    • Reduce oxidative damage caused by free radicals on average by 45%, which can help decrease the risk for developing degenerative conditions like heart disease, dementia, and arthritis

Those numbers look pretty impressive!  I don’t know if you’ve watched the news lately but we as Americans are getting bigger and bigger and as a result are having more and more health issues.  Its amazing to know that those issues can be reversed or even eliminated with the correct diet and Shakeology can help with that.

There is also the ever popular Shakeology cleanse where you replace every major meal with Shakeology for 3 days.  In addition, you are allotted one salad, lots of water and green tea.  I have done it, my wife has done it, and it works great! I will admit, it is tough, but the health benefits of doing a cleanse are awesome. A Shakeology three day cleanse is great if you are just starting a new workout program, are in a rut and need to break the plateau, or maybe you just got back from Thanksgiving and need to get your system right.

    How to use Shakeology?

There are a variety of ways to make Shakeology that suits you best. I know some people just throw the powder in a shaker cup, add water, shake and boom.  Me personally, I like to blend it with water, ice, reduced fat peanut butter, some soy milk and Quaker Oats.  Unlike other protein shakes I have tried, it dissolves fairly easily even with just a shaker cup.

    Shakeology Flavors

Right now it comes in 2 flavors, Chocolate and Greenberry. However in 2012, Beachbody is coming out with a vegan friendly version and the new flavor is Tropical Medley.

    Shakeology Alternative – Shakeology Equivalent

Many other products can give you a few of these nutrient groups, but as a breakthrough in nutrition, Shakeology provides them all in one shake!  The table below shows the differences between Shakeology and Jamba Juice among others.  There are other companies out there that try to create Shakeology substitutes like Visalus, Isagenix and Herbalife but none of them provide near the quality and broad range of benefits as Shakeology.

How much does Shakeology cost – Is Shakeology expensive?

Shakeology price is about $4 per serving ($120 per month) for high-quality antioxidants, 23 vitamins and minerals, super green phytonutrients, whey protein and essential amino acids, prebiotics and digestive enzymes, good carbs, and low fats. Or you can purchase each supplement separately, at a cost of about $250 per month.

How can I purchase Shakeology for less?

Retail price for the general public is $119.95 plus shipping and taxes.  If you order via Shakeology Home Direct (Shakeology HD), which means it gets auto-shipped every month, SHIPPING IS FREE!

If you become a Beachbody Club member, you get a 10% Shakeology discount, so the price  comes down to $107.95.

Beachbody coaches earn a 25% discount and can purchase Shakeology at $89.86.  So while you won’t ever see a sign that says ‘Shakeology On Sale‘, this is the cheapest way to get it.

With this price in mind you might be searching for a Shakeology alternative, but there is nothing else on the market that provides all these benefits for less than a cup of joe at Starbucks.

Where can I order Shakeology – where to buy?

You cannot buy Shakeology on Amazon or from GNC, you can only buy it from an authorized dealer like me! You cannot buy Shakeology in stores – only online:

Shakeology Beachbody – the makers of Shakeology

Beachbody LLC is an American multinational corporation that designs and markets fitness, weight loss, and muscle building home-exercise DVD’s. The company’s best-known product is Tony Horton’s P90X, whose TV ads have become some of the most frequently run infomercials in the United States.

    • 1 Shakeology shaker cup
    • A recipe calendar for both Chocolate and Greenberry flavors
    • 2 free Shakeology workout DVDs, one workout is 30 minutes and the other is 50 minutes

    Shakeology Side Effects

I have not experienced any side effects from using Shakeology, although during my research I did find that others did.  The most common complaint was digestion and gas issues.

    Shakeology Scam

When something sounds too good to be true there are always skeptics, and I have no problem with that.  But I think I have shown how valuable this product is as far as the ingredients.  Plus, I can only speak for myself and I know how it has worked for me.  I have also seen people on Facebook have remarkable weight loss successes and victories over other health issues, all contributed to drinking this shake.  So the burden really is on the scoffers to prove otherwise.
